Kato pyrgos location
And history

Kato Pyrgos is the main village of Tylliria, situated on the northern slopes of the Troodos mountains, in the area's largest and most beautiful valley, alongside a stunning crystal-clear beach.

The village's name comes from "Troulli," a small tower-like structure (Pyrgos) on a prominent beach hill.

Historically, "Troulli" served as an observation post during the Venetian period, and the Department of Antiquities of Nicosia has recently started renovation work on it.

The Community has approximately 1500 residents, whereas during the summer months several holidaymakers also stay in the village.

More particularly, many tourists from both Cyprus and abroad come to Pyrgos to enjoy our crystal seawaters, the mountain and sea air, the fresh fish and the traditional hospitality of the residents.

excavations

Archaeological Monuments

Archaeologists digging at Pyrgos Tyllirias found medieval building parts, tombs, a bronze cross, a pin, clay pots, a carved ring, and coins. At another nearby site, Koilada-Palialona, they discovered tombs from the Hellenistic period that were used until Roman times or later.

The Holy Bishopric of Kykkos provided important financial support for these excavations.

churches

Churches and chapels

The central church of our village, dedicated to Saints Constantinos and Eleni, stands in the village square.

It has undergone recent renovation and reconstruction courtesy of the Holy Bishopric of Kykkos-Tylliria.

There are also some other churches including Ayia Eirini, Ayios Stylianos, Panayia Galoktisti and Prophet Elias.
